Effective for the 2026/27 School Year...

A NEW Michigan Law REQUIRES schools to limit student use of electronic devices during the school day. 

• All day, every day.  NO electronic device during instructional time. K-12.

• Electronic devices are allowed on buses.  Please be respectful of others.

• Middle School and High School students may use their cell phones during their scheduled lunch times. K-5 remain ELECTRONIC FREE.

• While at school, ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES must be in lockers and powered off during the instructional school day.

**Yes, devices are able to be used after school.

What is an electronic device?

An electronic device includes, but is not limited to: 

Cell Phones

Smartwatches

Tablets

Earpods/Airpods 

Gaming devices

 Any device that can communicate, record, transmit, or access media or the internet

If you don’t want your child’s device taken, please tell them to not have it out OR don’t have them bring it to school. 

It’s STATE LAW:  This is the law, and we are required to follow it.  

Please help us keep our focus on less distractions and more learning.  The expectations help create a safe, focused learning environment for all students. We thank you for helping to support a focused learning environment.  We value your partnership.   We understand that this change may require adjustments for both students and parents.  We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together to create a successful school year. Please, if you have any questions, reach out the your school office.  They will be returning on August 17.

High School Fall Sport Practices begin on Monday, August 10.

Please note times and locations.

Sports Physicals: For the 26-27 school year, an MHSAA pre-participation sports physical is required for all students who participate in sports.

A physical examination must be completed on or after April 15, 2026 to be considered a valid physical for 2026-27.

Benzie County Central Schools is pleased to announce the addition of Bonita Eickenroth to our Betsie Valley Elementary staff.


Bonita will be a paraprofessional at Betsie Valley Elementary.


Bonita moved to the area in 2023 and lives in the beautiful town of Thompsonville.


She is the proud mama to a 4th and 5th grader at Betsie Valley Elementary and has learned along the way that all children need a caring and kind ear with discernment and understanding compassion. 


She has worked with the amazing team at Crystal Mountain since 2023.  



Bonita enjoys playing guitar, singing, reading, jogging and hanging out with her children. 

She is looking forward to a wonderful 2026/27 schools year. 


We are fortunate to have her join our team and Husky family.

Benzie County Central Schools is pleased to announce the addition of Molly Goudey to our Lake Ann Elementary Staff.

Molly will be a lead GSRP teacher at Lake Ann Elementary.

Molly was born and raised in Traverse City and graduated from St. Francis in 2014.  He mom is a retired teacher of 32 years, and she is the one who taught Molly the love for the classroom.

Molly is a 2021 graduate of Ferris State University with a Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education. 

She has been working in the field of Early Childhood for the last 12 years and has experience working with children ages 1-5 years old.

Molly has been a GSRP teacher at TCAPS for the last 4 years and a GSRP teacher with NMCAA the 3 years prior to that.  She has many years of working in the daycare setting and was also a nanny for 10 years.  She recently finished school to obtain her K-6th teaching certificate.

Mrs. Goudey is the proud mom of 2 wild little boys, ages 1 and 2.5 years old.  She also has a 3-year old puppy named Marshall.

Both she and her husband were born and raised in Traverse City.  They love being able to raise their children in the beautiful town that they grew up in.  

Molly absolutely loves working in the field of education and being able to be an important part of of youngest learners.

She looks forward to meeting new families, kiddos and staff at Lake Ann Elementary and being a part of the Benzie County Central School system.

We are fortunate to have her join our team and Husky family.

Benzie County Central Schools is pleased to announce the addition of Saturnrina (Rina)  Newburn  to our Benzie Central Middle School staff. 

Rina will teach math at Benzie Central Middle School. 

Rina is an Omaha native and a recent Benzie County transplant. She is excited to join the Benzie Central Middle School team this fall. 

Mrs. Newburn has been teaching for 11 years, and has had the privilege of teaching in both elementary and middle schools settings. 

She loves creating engaging, supportive classrooms where students feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions and growing as learners. She is passionate about helping students build confidence in themselves, especially in math. 

Rina believes that every student can be successful with the right encouragement, meaningful learning experiences, and a positive classroom environment.  Her goal is to making learning engaging while helping students develop the skills they'll need both in school and beyond. 

Mrs. Newburn earned her Bachelor of Science, Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, Master of Educational Leadership, and her principal endorsement in Nebraska.  She is currently pursing her Doctorate of Educational Leadership through Minnesota State University.  Her research interests focus on integrated student support systems and the impact of leadership on staff efficacy and student success. Her graduated work has included research design, systems theory in educational organizations, and school improvement planning. 

Rina married her high school sweetheart, Paul and they just celebrated 16 years together.  Together, they have several fur babies, but no human babies just yet. 

They love spending time together outdoors, gardening, riding motorcycles and quads, fishing, and doing everything else Northern Michigan has to offer.

She looks forward to an amazing year of learning and growing with our wonderful students.
