I am Cheryl Smith, the High School Principal.
Over the years, I have forged many relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community while here at Benzie Central. I am excited to lead the high school, and have no doubt that this is going to be a great school year!

By earning a national ranking in the top 40%, Benzie Central Sr. High School achieved status as a U.S. News Best High School.

US News & World Report
For the sixth year in a row Benzie Central High School has been awarded the Silver Shield from U.S. News and World Report. The school has also been recognized by Bridge Magazine as one of the Top High schools in the State.
AP Honor Roll District
Benzie Central High School is an AP Honor Roll District! Offering students five AP classes including English, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry and US History giving them the opportunity to earn college credit in high school.
Forms & Resources
WORK PERMITS (Effective October 1, 2026)
Please review the following important update regarding student work permits. Effective October 1, 2026, responsibility for issuing, processing, and managing minor work permits will officially transfer from school districts to the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) via the new centralized Youth Employment Permit Portal (YEPP).
What Is Changing?
- State-Managed Portal: All new student work permits will be processed entirely online through the state’s YEPP system. Students, parents, and prospective employers will complete the application and verification process directly with the state/LEO. School districts will not be part of this processing.
- No School Signing Required: School staff are no longer required to review, sign, stamp, or archive work permit applications for student employment.
- Employer Responsibility: Employers must register through the state portal and be authorized by LEO to hire minors before a permit is completed.
High School Seeds
SEEDS enrollment is open! Programming for MS and HS began September 23.
Program Locations:
- BCMS room #125
- BCHS room #228
All students grade 6-8 are invited to meet every Monday-Thursday throughout the school year from 2:45 PM – 6:00 PM for field trips, homework help, activities, and learning opportunities. A wide range of activities will be scheduled with input from students each month in subjects such as:
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
- Environmental science and ecology
- Sports, fitness and nutrition
- Cooking and baking
- Leadership and life skills
- Career exploration
- Social emotional learning
- Art, music and writing
- Community service projects
Everything SEEDS provides is absolutely free! Including food, materials, and Benzie Bus rides.
Important: Enrollment is open year-round. Students must pre-register to attend. Registration packets are available in Room #125, (the MS SEEDS room) or in either main office. Both the Enrollment Form and Childhood Information Record Form must be completed before participating. Returning SEEDS students do need to re-register.
Completed packets can be dropped off in Room #125 or in either main office.

BCTV
Past editions of BCTV can be viewed here. We are updating our format to fit our new Multi-Media production Class. This will provide students real-life experience and give viewers a creative insight to the latest news at Benzie Central.
Multimedia class is a journalism class open to students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. The course is designed to offer students experiences in journalism. They will have opportunities to hone their journalism skills by participating in all elements of both broadcast and print production. The course includes instruction in effective and responsible journalistic writing forms and techniques, broadcasting, sales and marketing, and business management. Students are required to work outside the school day. Consideration for enrollment is based on an application along with a 60-second video pitch. Written letter to instructor describing interest in the class.
