Asa Kelly - National Board Certification
Congratulations to Mr. Kelly!
Betsie Valley Elementary
Look at the incredible staff we have here at Benzie Central!
We have another teacher who has earned his National Board Certification, one of the highest honors in the teaching profession. Less than 3% of teachers nationwide achieve this distinction. It recognizes educators who meet the most rigorous standards for teaching and learning, and it reflects years of deep reflection, classroom practice, and dedication to students.
Mr. Kelly earned his certification as an Early Childhood Generalist educator with guidance through the Teach Michigan program.
"When Mrs. Erfourth came to me a few years ago and encouraged me to get involved with the Teach Michigan program, I honestly didn't know what I was fully getting into.
It has been such a shot in the arm for my teaching career, and has allowed me to really hone my craft and network with teachers from all over the state. I am proud to be a part of this fine program, and honored (and relieved) to earn my National Board Certification."
Asa and his wife Traci are veteran Benzie Central teachers of 26 years as well as our dedicated coaches of our cross country and track & field teams for the past 23 years.
The Kelly's have been staples in the Benzie community since 2000.
hey have both taught in our elementary schools and coached our varsity teams proudly.
Their two daughters, Avery and Mylie, are either current students or recent graduates of Benzie Central, and the Kelly's have now hosted eight exchange students over the years.
The Kelly family bleeds Benzie red, and love being a part of this community.
Please join us in congratulating Mr. Kelly on this incredible accomplishment!
We are so proud of you!
Benzie Central Bowling - Baker Tournament
Congratulations to the girls bowling team who won the Baker Tournament on Saturday.
Boy's Varsity 1 finished in 3rd place and Varsity 2 finished 5th place.

Fewer than 3% of teachers nationwide achieve this distinction. It recognizes educators who meet the most rigorous standards for teaching and learning, and it reflects years of deep reflection, classroom practice, and dedication to students
Michaela is a proud Benzie Central graduate herself and for several years has served Benzie Schools as a dedicated lower-elementary teacher.
While she is enjoying a well-deserved maternity leave with her newborn (and her two other sweet little ones at home!), our staff and students are already looking forward to welcoming her back.
Her commitment to her students shines every single day.
Michaela, her husband Nick, and their wonderful family are truly part of what makes our community special.
Please join us in congratulating Mrs. MacGirr on this incredible accomplishment!
Way to go, Michaela!
We are so proud of you!
