Platte River Elementary’s Parent Teacher Organization is made up of several invested parents, teachers, and school administration. The group raises funds for classrooms and organizes several activities. We proudly partner with Michigan State University Extension FoodCorps. Our service provider is Ms. Julia. FoodCorps is a nationwide team of AmierCorps leaders who collaborate with community and schools to create healthy school food environments with staying power by transforming students’ experience of food in schools in three key areas: Hands-on learning, healthy school meals, and a school-wide culture of health.
Mackinac Center ranked Platte River Elementary #3 out of the 614 rural Public and Charter Elementary and Middle Schools in Michigan in 2016.
In 2016, 4th and 5th grade students at Platte River Elementary performed better than the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District region of schools as well as the State of Michigan average in Reading / English Language Arts.
Platte River offers opportunities for students to get involved in extracurricular activities such as 3rd-5th grade Odyssey of the Mind, 3rd-6th grade Science Olympiad, 3rd-6th grade boys and girls basketball, 2nd-6th grade Cross Country, 1st-6th grade Alpine Ski Club, Cub/Boy/Girl Scouts, 6th grade Musical and 6th grade Band.
