Mrs. Nancy Reed teaches music all four Benzie Elementary Schools.
During First Semester, I teach at Platte River and Crystal Lake Elementary. During Second Semester, I teach at Lake Ann and Betsie Valley Elementary.
I grew up in Flushing, Michigan and spent my life involved with music: from singing in church and in choirs to 10 years of piano lessons, as well as playing trumpet in the Flushing High School bands and orchestras as well as with the Flint School of Performing Arts. In high school, I traveled throughout the state of Michigan and the country competing with my school marching band. I also traveled to Germany to perform with the Flint Youth Symphony.
I earned my Bachelor of Music Degree at the University of Michigan and also received a degree in math. While at Michigan, I traveled with the Symphony Band both to Berlin, Germany and on a state of Michigan tour, which included a performance at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Mrs. Reed also has a Master of Arts degree from Central Michigan University in Library Media.
My first teaching job was at Hale Area Schools in Hale, Michigan. I taught 5th grade through 12th grade band as well as a math class here and there. I met my husband, Matt, while teaching there. I have since taught at Thunder Bay Junior High in Alpena, at Waverly High School in Lansing, and at Pullman Elementary School in Pullman, Michigan.
I have two sons, Luke (who graduated from Benzie) and Jake (who is a student at Benzie). Our whole family stays busy with football, basketball, and track and with my different school musicals. I have had season tickets to University of Michigan football games for over 20 years and enjoy going to games at the “Big House” every fall. When I have time, I also like to knit.
The Reed family is really enjoying living and working in Benzie County!!
