Belva Whaley

Special Education

 

Belva Whaley grew up in Midland, Michigan and graduated from Bay City Western High School.  She attended Delta College in University Center, Michigan, and United Wesleyan College in Allentown, Pennsylvania where she graduated with a B.S. Degree in Youth Ministry.  Mrs. Whaley returned to college at Northwestern Michigan College and Grand Valley State University to pursue her teaching career.  She received her teaching certification with endorsements in Special Education – Cognitive Impairment, Early Childhood Education, and Language Arts from GVSU.  She is also highly qualified in the area of Secondary Mathematics.

Mrs. Whaley began her teaching career at Benzie as a co-teacher in a first grade class at Crystal Lake Elementary.  She moved over to the high school to initiate the In School Suspension room.  She was hired as a middle school special education teacher in 2013.  She is currently co-teaching middle school and high school classes in English and Math as well as Resource Room English.

During the summer, Mrs. Whaley and her husband, Mike, operate a Children’s Summer Bible Camp in Honor, Michigan.  Campers from the five county area have been attending Camp Chenaniah for many years.  In her free time, Mrs. Whaley enjoys spending time with her family, reading, baking and dreaming of another cruise in the Caribbean.  Mrs. Whaley has eight children that can call her “Mom.”
