Sarah Slade

Intervention Specialist

Mrs. Slade has been teaching for Benzie Schools since 1999.  She taught sixth grade at Platte River Elementary for many years, and has recently settled into 5th grade at Lake Ann Elementary.  Prior to her teaching career, Mrs. Slade worked as a social worker, counselor, and outdoor/environmental educator in Colorado and in the Upper Peninsula.  She is a graduate of the University of Michigan (Go Blue!!) with a B.A. in sociology, graduated from Michigan Tech University with an M.S. in biological sciences, and finally, earned her teaching certificate from Aquinas College.

Mrs. Slade’s family includes her husband, Larry, and son, Zane.  Zane works as a medical malpractice attorney for a law firm in Champaign, Illinois.  Mrs. Slade also is a mom to two energetic English Setters, Roxy and Ginger!  They enjoy bird hunting in the woods with Mr. Slade.

Outside of school, Mrs. Slade enjoys spending time with her family.  They like to frequent area beaches and hiking trails.  She is also a bit of an outdoors sports enthusiast and can be found mountain biking, running, backpacking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing…..whatever the season provides for.  Just this summer, Mrs. Slade went on a mountain bike packing adventure, riding 1,400 miles of the Great Divide Trail through the Rocky Mountains.
