Winona Roper

2nd/3rd Grade

Mrs. Roper currently teaches a 2nd grade at Lake Ann Elementary. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan and Masters of Elementary Education from Grand Valley State University.
Winona has been teaching for 23 years, and ALL of them have been at Benzie County Central Schools. Within that time, she has taught in almost every grade level from Kindergarten to 8th grade. With that range, she feels that perspective has given her a greater understanding and appreciation of the uniqueness of each developmental stage. Mrs. Roper added that she can honestly say that she has enjoyed each and every experience.
In addition to teaching, she has played both a leadership and supporting role in numerous clubs and organizations throughout her career. She has coached basketball and Girls on the Run, as well as served as an advisor for the Benzie Central Middle School Interact Club. Winona is an active member of the Building Impact Team (BIT) and has played a role in other district committees over the years. Without a doubt, you will spot her out and about showing her Benzie Central pride, while cheering (or often volunteering) at after school sporting events.
Mrs. Roper is currently set to complete her LETRS certification in May. This two-year program is based on the Science of Reading. Being a lifelong learner is important to her and she continues to look for opportunities to grow her knowledge as an educator.
Winona has deep roots in this community. She attended elementary school at Platte River Elementary, and graduated from Benzie Central High School. After college, her heart pulled her back to Benzie County with the hope to make a positive impact in the community she grew up in. To Mrs. Roper, there is nothing better than watching youthful faces light up with excitement and accomplishment.
Mrs. Roper leaves us with this, “Kindness is igniting a light in someone else for no other reason than to watch them enjoy the glow.”
